Special note: Prolab Nutrition
Thermapro has been discontinued due to the increasing controversy surrounding the main ingredient, ephedra (if you're looking for an ephedra-based alternative to Themapro, check out my review of Trimspa here!). Otherwise this article remains up for your reading pleasure...
I bought a bottle of Prolab Nutrition Thermapro
recently for a couple of reasons...
First and foremost, Prolab Nutrition Thermapro
is pretty competitively priced -- less than half the price
of a bottle of Xenadrine RFA-1.
Second, a bottle of ThermaPro goes a long way -- 2 months
if you stick to 2 capsules a day (trust me, that's plenty
-- there's a whopping 24 mg of ephedrine in each serving. So
unless you REALLY like counting sheep...). ;-)
Special note: Ephedrine is an effective, if somewhat controversial
supplement. If you'd like learn more about the issues surrounding
the ephedrine controversy, I've written a couple of articles...

OK, where was I? Oh yes, Prolab Nutrition Thermapro! OK, let's
continue...
I was somewhat surprised to find this in my local sports and
nutrition store, especially since Health Canada implemented
the "voluntary" ban on products containing more than 8mg of
ephedrine per serving a few months back (I'm not gonna
get into this, so don't tempt me!). I'm not complaining mind you
-- I was actually looking for an ephedrine-based fat burner
with some extra power.
Why?
During the spring and fall months I really appreciate an
ephedrine-based product with an extra punch. I have a couple of
days where the allergies kick in something awful -- all the
Reactin or Claritin in the world won't clear it up. On those
really miserable days when the old nose is clogged solid, the
sinuses are killing me, and all I want to do is lie down, a
24 mg dose of ephedrine goes a long way in turning the tide.
Not only is ephedrine a powerful decongestant, it'll keep you
wide awake and productive, when you thought such a thing was
impossible.
But I digress. Let's now return to the fat burning powers of
Prolab Nutrition Thermapro...
As a product, it contains all the basics that make a good fat
burner -- ephedrine (from Sida Cordifolia), caffeine, aspirin
(from white willow), plus two other ingredients...
Cayenne (capsicum): basically this is red pepper -- the stuff
you put into chili or pasta sauce to make it hot. Cayenne
(capsicum) improves the efficiency of the circulatory system,
as well as elevating the internal body temperature, and
increasing fat burning ability through thermogenisis.
Special note: The very first time I took this product, I
began to itch all over, and my eyes were watering like I'd just
eaten something very hot. It wasn't more than mildly unpleasant,
and it never happened again. Just so you know!
And...
Ginger: not helpful as a fat burner, but may be useful as
an antinauseant, and an aid to digestion.
True, Prolab Nutrition Thermapro may not contain newer cutting
edge ingredients like Green Tea or Coleus Forskoli, but what it
lacks in refinement and modernistic ingredients it makes up for
in low cost and solid product formulation.
For the cost, you can't really go wrong here.
However, I don't recommend using Prolab Nutrition Thermapro unless you've
had some experience taking stimulant based products (like
Hydroxycut or Xenadrine rfa-1) before. Since Prolab Nutrition
Thermapro delivers a full dose of ephedrine in a single
capsule, there's no way for you to assess your tolerance to
ephedrine by beginning supplementation with a lower dose. MuscleTech's Hydroxycut,
for instance, delivers its ephedrine payload in 4 capsules, so
it's easy to asses tolerance. The same can be said for Xenadrine rfa-1, which delivers its payload
in 2 capsules.
