Buying hydroxycut in Canada? You're getting a dramatically less effective
product ever since MuscleTech replaced the old formula ephedra based formulation with this "revolutionary" new formulation a short while back.
Previously, the hydroxycut available in Canada was not much different than the formulation available south of the border -- the only real difference being the substitution of green tea to replace the chromium and l-carnitine you'll find in the U.S. version (the newly revised version of the US product is ephedra free, and very similar to the Canadian version). However, the main ingredients -- the ephedrine / ephedra stack -- remained intact.
However, in 2001 Health Canada outlined brand new regulations regarding the amount of ephedra that would be allowed in a single dose of any over the counter "fat burner", "energy pill", or "decongestant"...
8 mg.
Several popular fat burners (including the Canadian version of Xenadrine RFA-1) disappeared for "re-tooling" since their formulations exceeded this amount. Xenadrine reappeared shortly thereafter with a new formulation delivering 7.5 mg ephedrine per serving. The new Canadian Hydroxycut was nowhere to be found, delay after delay greeting customers awaiting the new formulation.
Having reviewed both the original Canadian and US versions of Hydroxycut, I was eagerly awaiting something ground breaking (to read that original review, please click here!).
Alas, it was not to be.
The new made in Canada hydroxycut contains...
i) Garcinia Cambogia: standardized for something
called HCA, or hydroxycitric acid, early trials with animals
indicated HCA was effective in preventing excess
carbohydrates from being converted to fat. More recent
research indicates this compound has little positive fat loss
benefits for humans.
One person who believes hydroxycitric acid has some potential as an effective weight loss aid is Will Brink, well-known supplement guru (for a full review of hydroxycitric acid, click here).
ii) Guarana Extract: standardized for caffeine, which
on its own is a decent, but not overly powerful fat burner.
iii) Green Tea Extract: Green tea is probably the most
exciting element of this cop-out formulation. It was included
in the original ephedrine-based version, which I experimented
with and found helpful. Green tea contains caffeine, but more
importantly it appears to be helpful as a blood sugar regulator.

iv) White Willow Extract: used as a natural alternative to
aspirin and the third part of the ECA "stack" (comprised of ephedrine, caffeine, and
asprin). Unfortunately, without ephedrine included in the formulation, white willow extract does not provide much in the way of fat burning benefits.
Bottom line?
The new made in Canada hydroxycut is not useless,
but it is overpriced, and without ephedra in the compilation, it's unlikely you'll experience
nearly the weight loss success you did with the
original product.
Other new stimulant free fat burners like Xenadrine EFX (reviewed
here on Ultimatefatburner.com), or Lean System 7 (available from our web store) show much greater potential.
